the Starry/floral/stripes muslin collection

A collection of patterns designed for YNUX Limited and their brand, Nightingale. Dubbed the "Starry/Floral/Stripes" collection, it was released on several products like sleeping bags, fitted sheets, and bandana bibs in 2022. The products are available on the Nightingale website and Amazon store.

Nightingale is a children’s products brand with a target audience of primarily North American mothers in their thirties who find Boho, Scandinavian, and minimalist design appealing. Designs produced for its products must be gender-neutral or feminine. Colours tend to be warm, earthy and/or muted, but at the same time, shouldn’t be dull nor drab!

I see this collection as a big collaboration with YNUX Limited’s directors, Duy and Hien. Things aligned so that the idea for each pattern came from one of us, and it was I who put the designs together, did the fine-tuning, and harmonized colors.

Floral

An idea from me: it started as a surface pattern created for practice which Duy and Hien really liked and asked me to take to final production stage. The colorway for the entire collection was taken from this pattern.

Starry

An idea from Hien: stars arranged in loose horizontal garlands, a different take on the popular starry theme. I designed this for Impack’s Starry mailer bag prints, and it was decided to use it for this Nightingale collection as well.

Stripes

An idea from Duy! Of two versions - one with equally spaced lines and another with thinner darks and thicker lights - we selected the one with equally spaced lines since it was the better and more fitting of the two!

It’s always great seeing a design released into the wild and being well-received. I look forward to opportunities to design more surface pattern collections in the future!
